Most people from outside the UK who want to live in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland are required to complete the Life in the UK test. At least 18 out of the 24 difficult questions in this test must to answered correctly in order to pass it. There are tough questions about British people and society, Europe, the Commonwealth, the UK, it's history, government and many laws. Only people who pass this test can apply for UK Citizenship or Indefinite Leave to Remain.
You are not allowed to take any books or notes into the test room with you, so there is a lot of information you need to learn before taking the exam. If you fail the Life in the UK test you can do it again, but you must wait at least 7 days and pay the full £33.28 every time you do so. Be careful, if your visa is due to expire in the coming months and you want to settle in the UK, it is important you to pass this citizenship test as soon as you can.
To prepare yourself for the Life in the UK test, the UK Home Office recommend that you buy and read the official 'Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship' book. While this is a good idea, the book has almost 150 pages and it takes a long time to read. It's complicated sentences can make it really difficult to remember all the facts you need to pass the test. Luckily, we are here to make that easier for you.
